“Macalla” is a 72 × 48 inch original contemporary painting created in 2025 using acrylic and natural earth paints. Part of the ongoing “Paintings as Portals” series, this large-scale work is a first in making wo portals intertwine. Autumn crossing into Winter echos Spring into Summer creating an infinite turning and echoing back to each other.

Inspired in part by the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in Asheville, North Carolina, “Macalla” is a deep reflection on the cycles of life in their loss and regenerative force. Macalla is an Irish word for Echo.
